Learning Activity Animal systematics in the Pari Islands

Animal Systematics Practicum activities of Biology FST UIN Jakarta students to Pari Island is an island owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government located in the village, South Thousand Islands sub-district, Thousand Islands Regency, DKI Jakarta. Animal Systematics Practicum activities in the Biology study program are laboratory activities that focus on grouping (classification) of animals based on morphological, anatomical, and phylogenetic characteristics.

Practicum Objectives:

  • Understand the principles of animal taxonomy and systematics.
  • Identify morphological and anatomical features of animals.
  • Train skills in the use of determination keys (dichotomous key).
  • Study the relationship of kinship (phylogeny) between animals.

Material Studied:

  • Animal Classification (Filum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species).
  • Morphological Identification (body shape, symmetry, appendages, etc.).
  • Use of Microscope & Identification Aids.
  • Creation of Reference Collection (wet/dry preserves, specimens).

Example of Practicum Activity:

  • Observe and classify Arthropods (insects, spiders, crustaceans).
  • Differentiating Mollusks (gastropods, bivalves, cephalopods).
  • Analyze the differences in vertebrates (pisces, amphibia, reptiles, aves, mammals).
  • Practice of making entomological herbarium (insect collection).

This practicum helps students understand animal diversity and the basics of modern taxonomy.
