Composting Polyalthia sp. Dry Leaves and Manure

OBE activity for Environmental Biotechnology course : Composting Polyalthia sp. Dry Leaves and Manure with Prof. Dr. Megga Ratnasari Pikoli M.Si.

In the Biotechnology practicum, students of the Biology Study Program FST UIN Jakarta carried out activities to make compost from dried leaves of Polyathia sp. and manure. The purpose of the practice of compost fertilizer from dry leaves for biology students in the faculty of science and technology is so that students know the process and benefits of any plant that God created there are benefits for living things. as explained in the Quran :

“And on the earth there are signs (events that are invisible to them), believe in the resurrection after death, and (believe also) in Allah, when you live with (utilizing) useful plants.”

Have you ever thought about how plants that we do not realize have provided evidence of the wonders and majesty of Allah? The Quran invites us to pay attention to plants that provide benefits for our daily lives. In a life filled with such wonders, we must believe that there is life after death, and that Allah is the Almighty Creator.

What is composting in biotechnology?Composting is a biological process that uses decomposers that recycle nutrients and energy. The two most common forms of composting used for waste management and organic fertilizer production are traditional composting and worm composting.

Compost fertilizer is manure?Difference between Compost Fertilizer and Manure, The type of compost fertilizer is included in the material component of organic fertilizer. Meanwhile, manure is the building material of the compost itself. Both have a good role as a source of nutrients for plants.
How to turn dry leaves into manure?
How to Compost Dry Leaves in the Trash or Pile. To start, crush the leaves with a lawn mower, put them in a lawn mower bag, then: Add the leaves to the compost bin, or pile them in the corner of your yard. Layer the leaves with nitrogen-rich materials, such as cottonseed meal, fresh grass clippings, food scraps, or manure.

What are the benefits of compost from dry leaves?
The benefit of making compost from dry leaves is to help farmers make organic fertilizer from nature and optimize the utilization of dry leaf waste so that dry leaves can have a high use value and are useful as compost.

What kind of biotechnology does compost fertilizer include?
In agriculture, conventional biotechnology can be used to make compost, manure and biogas through a fermentation process with the help of microorganisms.

What is the conclusion of composting?
Composting results in the stabilization of organic matter, including the destruction of many plant and animal pathogens, the concentration of most nutrients, micronutrients, and metals, as well as some additional changes in their chemical form. Nutrients can be made more or less available to plants through the composting process.
